Die Gründe hierfür sind wohl zweierlei Art: Zum einen waren mit Erscheinen des Wörterbuches der ägyptischen Sprache erst wenige frühzeitliche Fundplätze ausgegraben, zum anderen standen die schwierige Lesbarkeit und das oftmals mangelnde Verständnis des Inhalts der Inschriften einer Aufnahme in ein Lexikon entgegen.
