  • Shen Zhou, 1427-1509, also called Shen Qinan and Shen Shitian and, in his old age, the White Stone Old Man, was a versatile painter of the Ming Dynasty. He was a native of Changzhou (present-day Wuxian in Zhejiang Province). He and Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin and Chou Ying were the Four Masters of Ming Painting. He made an important impact on the style of painting in the Ming Dynasty. In the painting of landscape, Shen Zhou's brushstrokes are terse and vigorous
